Introducing…THE IORSA COLLECTIVE

Founded by Jess McNulty, Lara Cucic and Lucy Walsh

The first ideas for the Iorsa Collective were born out of a minor breakdown after a flute competition; Lucy and I stood out in the rain having a rant about the inaccessibility of classical music (dramatic, I know). Whilst we both have nothing against competitions, having come from a non-musical family, for me, the situation at that moment reiterated a perpetual stereotype of classical music feeling ‘distant’ or ‘other’. It is one of my favourite artforms, with such incredible depths of expression, emotion, and humanity but I can also understand the ‘otherness’ of it. All being said, it was through both this rant, and then many more kitchen conversations in our flat as a three, that we had an idea to create a performance space which was more collaborative, comparatively casual, and, most importantly, included a variety of artforms.

OUR AIMS

MULTI-ARTS SPACE

We look to curate multi-arts spaces, integrating classical/contemporary music with spoken word, other musical genres and visual arts to explore different themes, thoughts and stories. With arts funding having been neglected in recent years, we hope that classical music can be enjoyed amongst the other artforms in ways which are embracing, and which give access to people who would not otherwise listen to it.

INCLUSIVITY

Inclusivity is at the heart of the Collective and we promise to use this space as a platform to uplift marginalised voices in the arts, to listen, to reflect, to learn and to nurture a welcoming community.

COLLABORATION

We recognise that any theme or story we explore is always multi-faceted. Collaboration allows all of us, regardless of creative expression, to come together and combine our own individual experiences, talents and stories to create something that is bigger and more nuanced than what we could do alone.

The Iorsa Collective has been a project long in the works and we are so excited to share this collaborative creative space with you.
